Bringing in Content, Managing Media and Creating Information

Libraries and archives say acquisition, but in media management the process of bringing content into an editor or asset management (DAM, MAM) system is commonly called ingest.  Analogue content requires playback and digitisation; even digital content (on physical carriers) requires playback, making ingest a slow and even frustrating process. The ingest stage can be used to create more information (key frames), but it is also a stage where information can be lost (metadata may not be read - or understood - by the editor or DAM).  PrestoCentre provides information on this key process.
